Joik is a personal composition considered as audiovisual poem, which captures the story of a hunter from Kautokeino and the Girl on the Bridge between Kirkenes and Murmansk.

Monika Fryčová (narozena 1983 v Československu) je audiovizuální umělkyně, performerka a spisovatelka. Žije a pracuje v České republice, na Islandu a v Portugalsku. Absolvovala Ateliér videa Fakulty výtvarných umění Vysokého učení technického v Brně. Studovala také na Akademii umění v Reykjavíku a nezávisle v Kalifornii a v Mexiku. Zabývá se různými druhy médií a techniky, včetně performance, videa, fotografie, instalace, zvuku a poezie. V její práci se objevují nelineární dynamické systémy, zkoumá mezikulturní problematiku a hranice kultury, menšiny a experimentální jazyky. Její výzkumná práce se zaměřuje na nesnadno zaznamenatelné témata jako je princip chaosu, intuice, vnímání, nebo mytologie. V posledních letech žije na Islandu a věnuje se organizaci mezinárodních uměleckých projektů (Islandia, OPEN SPRINGS v Reykjavíku, Untitled Festival v Bildudaluru).

Je členkou Sdružení islandských výtvarných umělců Sím a uměleckého tria HZS (spolu s Haraldurem Karlssonem a Danielem Schrono). Pracuje na projektu Fantazie versus disciplína - Umělec jako Etnograf. Pokračuje v organizaci mezikulturního uměleckého dialogu mezi Islandem, Portugalskem a Českou republikou.

One who walking in the twilight gloom, and hears round about him voices as it darkens, drinking coffee side by side in total silence, physically together but intellectually apart.

Joik is not a song about the person or place, but that the joiker is attempting to evoke or depict that person or place through song. Traditionally, joiks usually have short lyrics or no lyrics at all.
With the Christianization of the Sami, joiking was condemned as sinful.
