Arrival at Duchcov I.
We arrived at Duchcov train station on Saturday afternoon with Thorun, Kristin, Helena, Vladimir and Milos. Michal and Dominik came by car because of some gear we needed for the expedition. Dagmar was already in Duchcov, installing her coal sculptures along the route of the Jezeri hiking race.
The modernistic building of the new train station reminds us of a crematorium. It is located about 2 km from the center of Duchcov because there were plans in the 80s to demolish the old town and move the city further east in order to make place for another open pit.
The evening party of the Jezeri race, in which about 200 hikers and runners had participated, attracted a good crowd. The program included music and performances. We contributed with a short sound piece dedicated to the memory of the place, reading out names of the local village train stations erased by the coal harvesters during the last 50 years.
We were accommodated at hotel Casanova, which is equipped with good WiFi connection. Thanks to such luxury we can post in this blog.
We went to explore the town of Dux/Duchcov and to see the historical building of the former train station. On Sunday morning we will walk towards the "zone", and will spend the afternoon learning more about the town's history.
